Proofreader/Typesetter

Post by ♥Loveless♥ on Tue Dec 07, 2010 12:44 pm

So basically, I’m interested in either! I can’t really choose lol.

I have some skills in proofreader, maybe not the best, best though. I write and read a lot, so I guess that would be some clues in my skills in proofreading. Oh…or you can go here to get a better view on that: It’s where I mostly put my writings. Be warned of the horror though! Some of the writings I still haven’t gotten a chance to edit. That’s what school and work does to you. >.<

As for typesetter…truth be told I have zeeeeerrrro experience in. Well more like I have zero experience in scantling stuff lol. But! Yes, the but. ^_^ I’m willing to learn! In photoshop, I only have the limited edition…so I can’t do much in that. But I do have gimp, but because I just started to use it recently I don’t have good skills in it, only some basic stuff. Like a little in sigs! Look down below. <3

Spoiler:

But if you guys need help in other areas…except translating lol, if you’re willing to teach me I’ll try my best to work on it.

I think that’s all…is that it?? I wonder if I’m missing anything. O.O Ah, well just let me know if I am! Lol. Hope I didn’t bore anyone… Smile

Haha don't worry about boring us.
Hope I don't bore you now, a bit long post

At the moment we do not have an active proofreader. We had quite a few a while ago, but they're all inactive / left us.
And you don't really need to worry about proofreading skills - you mostly need to take out basic grammar mistakes, fix punctuation or sometimes turn a sentence into better english. Most of our translations are in pretty good english already, it's mostly just looking for small mistakes.

As for typesetting- I wouldn't mind having another typesetter, but our typesetting / cleaning balance is a bit off. We have atm 2 typesetters and 2 cleaners, and for the most part the typesetters don't have that much to do... Well thats also because we need to gather more projects.

We have tests for both positions, if you want to apply for both still thats fine;

something else: I know that Gimp works excellent, I've never used it myself, but know enough people that do, however I'm not sure if Gimp can open photoshop files- and perhaps save them as photoshop files after that. Because the cleans you'll receive will always be in photoshop files. And I'm not sure what the limited edition of photoshop can't do, so that brings me to two questions: Can Gimp open Photoshop files and save the files as photoshop files?
and: Is it possible to fully typeset with the limited edition of photoshop?

Had a look at your site, looks nice. Read the short about Pure Colored Snow. (I love the winter and snow and such, so I looked there first) and even though it was really short (Yeah, I write and read short stories mostly a bit longer) It build up quite the atmosphere considering the ammount of text. Might read some more there if I find time, looking for more inspiration for my own works.

And yeah that's me. Oh to answer you question about the torrent...I don't think I have it...

EDIT: Sorry for my slow reply! I was watching bleach at the same time lol.

Haha it doesn't bore me. Smile

Ah, okay. I think gimp does save photoshop, but I don't know if it opens it lol. But it probably does. Sure, I'll try out the test for both, but someone will have to tell me on how to do the typesetter part lol.

Thanks, I wrote that cause I love the name Yuki. <3 Cooly, so you write too? I would love to read some of your stories! Yeah, I write shorter oneshots/short stories, 1. cause I get too lazy and 2. cause I like to end it without giving it a complete end lol.

actually, you'd like to learn advanced cleaning from ringo. I personally hate topaz products cause my laptop is not that strong enough (could take 10 minutes denoising a 3000px and thus pretty annoying to do trial and errors >.>)
