My Application

Post by DSX on Tue Mar 29, 2011 6:38 am

Hello most of you already know me from AnimeAvenue but for those of you who don't allow me to introduce myself. First off my username is an abbreviation for what people actually call me. I am a gamer and I like anime and also read manga. I'm a bit of a renaissance man so that leads me to learning various skills and practices also I've watched all animes from 2000 to to half of 2010 already and as soon as I catch up to the latest I'll go backwards to look at old animes. There's rarely anything I don't like but I do have a few. I'm half Hispanic, Korean, Caucasian though I don't know if I'm South or North but I think it's safe to say I'm South(LOL). I listen to a variety of music and also have a variety as well from different genres.A friend from AnimeAvenue Katimusha introduced me to this site along with another named Mokuren and so i figure it'll be good practice and a learning experience for me in some form or manner.I may be a rookie starting out but I'm willing to put what I learned into practice. I'm looking forward to working with everyone here.Smile

Positions Applying For: Proofreader, Translator

Translator:

Japanese:My Japanese is pretty rough so I'm kind of a rookie but I am slowly getting the hang of it. I can speak conversational Japanese but that's as far as I can go for now. I can translate some Kanji, Hiragana, and Katagana although I can translate a bit better if they where in English text. For example "Boku no namae wa.....desu" or so. I am still self learning on Japanese and humbly open to tips and anything/anyone that can help me learn Japanese better.

Korean:Even though I'm half Korean I know less of Korean than I do Japanese but again I can vaguely help in this department somehow as I am learning Korean as well bit by bit. Again I am willing to learn Korean better from anyone.

Spanish:LOL I know this isn't a requirement but as a bonus I know Spanish really well and can help most in it then the other two. This is just in case there's any scan's that are in Spanish. I am pretty fluent but not that sophisticated.

Proofreader:

I've watched a lot of anime and read a lot of manga and I know a good amount of meanings that most people would find alienable. I have a great vocabulary as well as sophistication despite my inequities in Japanese and Korean.

Suggestion:

I might actually have a way to test those who want to be translators, maybe even 3 ways. One way is to have the applicant see if he understands the language by looking at a random scan and see if the applicant can translate it. You could use time and accuracy as measurements to see if he/she is capable. The other way works the same way but in reverse where you show English to see if the applicant knows the language well or not. The third way is to present the applicant with Kanji, Hiragana, or Katagana and see if he knows what it means. I provided an example for a better understanding of what I mean.

Welcome! Good luck with the examinations and passing them.

Welcome to the forum!!!!!!!!!!!!

@zc: yeah sentence structure is the next thing to learn X) I had this PDF that taught me the sentence structures before but I dont remember the title anymore XD now I have this program called cuecard. You can probably guess what it does XP together with 700+ japanese basic words (verbs, etc) and its kanji. I put it together and learn 30 words per day... My plan after at least familiarizing the basic words, I'll go through rosetta stone(which I already have) and hopefully widen my knowledge... Thanks to that I can understand 70% of a raw manga that I try to read XD tho not a detailed comprehension but it helps you get whats happening LOL

Hey DSX. You almost made my day.
Click Me. Have fun.

LOL @ Suggestion.
LOL even harder @ gif.

@Hazama, Zc: I do my grammar by instincts. LOL.

since when did you start learning though?

even my best friend google could not help me understand LOL
Spoiler:
I think waiting for hard sauce, it would be nice from time Kakenaku many pages. It put me in a week Baiin. Please ask if any of you understand. Wait, I'll do it properly. Also, do you know that Spanish is good, but Aya Hara 使Itakunai if possible. If you find the original text in Spanish, so I'm afraid to use the Chinese are not allowed closer and bonuses. I once heard this, I'll read it? Is a bonus. Funbare -

LOL. Good translation xD

I'm in my 3rd year for Japanese. But that's like a once a week thing. Painfully slow. I self-learned a year before I started schooling for it. By then I could already speak basic Japanese. >_> Which made Basic class really painful.

I'm not improving as fast as I like tho -__-

Hiyuki posted a post in Japanese. Translate that for instructions for the test, thats what he's talking about. The 'Click me' link in his post is the download link for the test.

Oh I see, again sorry. I followed the link but there's seems to be a problem with the download it'self because it gives me an error. In other words "Download No Good Sad" but nevermind Ms. Mokuren provided me with a different link.

No not yet, I'm still working on it. Remember I'm just a noob at this so it's taking me an abundant of time just to get a scan or 2 at least ready. I'm sorry for the longevity that I'm taking.

I did not mean to imply he was in just because, I was talking about how he seemed to be a hard worker and willing to do what it took and was thus half there already.
