Why Using the Internet in Japan is Strange

Post by ClaymoreSmiley on Thu Feb 24, 2011 9:05 am

Well besides the insanely fast download times I also get Japan-flavored popup ads and normal banner ads on sites like Youtube. Yeah so lately there's been this weird 'rental manga' ad running on Youtube with boys-love as a theme (I imagine they're trying to capitalize on the fact that boy's love manga will soon be horribly censored due to that one Tokyo law that's getting made).

But. I mean seriously?

For those of you who aren't translators let me spell that out for you. The blue bit says 'CAT (Male) X HUMAN (Male)' and the rest of the text is basically 'Oh I love you! Love love love! Ah, but our love cannot be!'

SERIOUSLY. WHAT THE GIBBERISH! Is this a joke? Or are there seriously sweaty fangirl surfing the net just looking for those amazingly hot bishi-on-cat stories that are oh so common. GAHHHHHHH! CANNOT UNSEE!

Yeah so. Japanese internet ads are horrible.

EDIT: Yeah, real manga. It's called Sentimental Garden Lover, about a male cat that's in love with his owner. In retrospect I guess girls liking that kind of story would be the same as guys liking Magical Nyan Nyan Taruto... except at least Taruto LOOKS like a human girl most/all of the time.

I laughed hard. better then the pop-ups I get, certainly. Btw isn't that manga law only IN tokyo, and not on other places? hm, certainly looks weird to see manga in the adult corner.

The law only applies to Tokyo, but since most of the big-names rely on support from Tokyo they're all cowing to it regardless. Who knows, maybe all that'll happen is a bunch of new manga/anime/game companies will pop up outside of Tokyo and shake things up.

Also, I actually gave a presentation about the Tokyo thing in one of my Japanese classes and my teacher was telling me that as soon as the current Tokyo governor leaves the next one will probably overturn the rule just to win people over since it's not a very popular decision.
