Alright about your typesetting: It wasn't bad but we're still not quite there. here's a lineup of your mistakes, scroll down to the summary for a short version.
Your text was a little too big most of the times. You don't have to make it so big, it wont cause any reading problems, so make them a little smaller. Your centering was mostly good, sometimes a little bit off. Try to keep a diamond shape. Now I would highly suggest you not to merge your text layers, for two reasons: One- Nobody can edit it anymore. If a QC'ers find a mistake he wouldn't be able to edit it without removing the whole text from the bubble btw. Two- When you use text effects (such as the stroke, wich you'll be using most) it will appear on all your texts while you'll only want one layer of text with the effects. Now thats out, continuing with the text effects: you should have put a stroke around the text in gamaran ('This is juuren village') you do this like so: Right click on the text layer, click 'blending options', go to stroke, set it at the correct ammount of pixels, depending on the size of the text, choose the color (white in this case) and then click ok and your text will have a nice stroke around it. At the TNR page the text ('Ehm was that it?') should be placed inside the panel and again with a stroke around it. Always check the raw to see where the original text was, or click the nifty 'dust / bubbles' layer away with the eye.

Summary:
Texts should be a little bit smaller and better centered / shaped. I'd suggest you take a look at some good typesetting for examples... and do the text effects when needed.

Re: >Editor for whythecake [PASSED]

Post by Hazama on Thu Jan 27, 2011 12:10 pm

Ringo covered most of it but I have to post this lol

Anyways:

First things first, dont rasterize and merge the text layers.. When you typeset, just keep its layers.

for 1300-1400px height pages, use 16-26 font sizes (22-26 are for the reaally large bubbles for example in gamaran). In this case, the pages were all 1300 and 1400 px.
Normally, we use 15-17 font size for 1200px. However if the bubble is too small or too large, you can always change the font size a lot more bigger or smaller. Just dont make the bubble look 'crowded' Smile

Also, when you typeset, you create a text layer like this:

as you can see, when you resize the box, the text arrangement changes. Just play with the box shape thingy to change the text arrangement the way you want it.

do not do this:

cause you will most likely do the 'diamond' shape manually

fonts to use:
wildwords - for normal text
cc jimlee - for thoughts (or just italized wildwords)
zudjuice, yikes, mouth breather, etc - for sharp (or screaming bubbles)

in page 11, the bubble that says 'th-this is juuren village?!' you have to put a stroke on the layer. go to layer>layer style>stroke and click ok (stroke size is 3px by default and its okay to have that). Stroking goes for all other bubbles that doesn't have white backgrounds.

also, do not touch these settings:

unless it is really needed and I mean reeeeaally needed lol XP

overall, the text placement was good. The problem is that text sizes are too big and text transforming is a no-no.
I'll wait for the version 2 of this test from you to see progress :>

and could anyone provide a link to some of these fonts Razz
zudjuice, yikes, mouth breather, etc got the ones off the unblessed guide but not sure which of them to use on Spiky bubbles. they said italic but depends on who so thats u guy ^_^

Alright you're getting good results Smile

=================
Typeset test:

gamaran_p08,
'...anyway what are foreigners like you guys...' --> bubble text too low

'Its right up ahead...' --> bubble text too low, reduce font size by 1
'...hey are you really the thousand-master's...' ---> reduce the fontsize by 2.
'...enough with that already...' --> reduce font size by 1
'...alright I'll show you the way to the...' --> increase fontsize by 1

gamaran_p11,
all the texts here are italiced(should not be the case). Good job on the text placing Smile

TNR_29,
A good job with text placing.

'...these guys are convinced...' --> Italize this
'...well, I also...' --> Italize
'...In that case...' --> reduce the fontsize by 2(or maybe 3) and put the 'in' at the top.

TNR_33,
Good job again with this page. ^^
'I am very happy' --> increase the font size by 4
'then my friends told me' --> place it like this:

Then my
friends
told me

=================

sorry for being too strict.. I just wanna have a reliable and effective typesetter in the group Smile
Also I'll give you the necessary fonts next time (or at least for the spikey bubble ones) ^^

these are really minor changes so I'll wait for the v3 and if you pass, you'll take the final test.

Don't worry you'll get there, as long as you're willing to improve. Every starting cleaner makes mistakes, in fact we have never had anyone pass the cleaning test the first time if I recall correctly.
Alright, cleaning test, you'll get your mistakes lined up per page

Page 01:
Some filter when over it. It's all kinda blurry and the grays don't have their usual pattern. Dusts left because of the filter, but the levels were good- a little too much to white though. On the top panel there is supposed to be a graytone, on your clean it's white.
Rotation is also not completely correct. Copying was good.
Page 02:
Same filter I guess. Levels were a little light, resulting in some dusts left. The redraw is not completely finished, and the 'smoke' things should return to his body, but yeah... Also, I'd suggest you to just take an extra layer and redraw there, because you've got over 70 layers now. You should use the linetool with the arrowhead option, do this by the following: Select the line tool -> Above you can set the pixel size and other shapes, next to the star (right most shape) there's a little arrow down, click it -> Choose end or start (not both) depending on your preference (try em both out) and set the lenght to something between 500 ~ 1000%. Then go over the speedlines with the linetool, use a 2 px if the speedlines are too thin.
Page 3 & 4:
We'll help you can these two with a program, let's just focus on the first two. at the moment there's alot of dusts on both good copying on the gintama page though.

Alright If you don't mind I'd like you to retry the first two pages (or I can give you some other tanks if you really want to try other pages) and to redo them without touching any filter. Just levels will be enough. And it'd be nice if you kept the original on the background and edited on a background copy, so I could easily compare the two. If you have any questions, feel free.

I'll show you a comparison of a version I did quickly and yours, hope it'll be a little clear. I suggest you too zoom in on the pattern of the dress so you can clearly see the difference.
http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/2043/72198675.jpg
(no img tag, it wouldn't fit)
If you want to psd tell me.
I wonder what you actually did with the pages, because if you only level then your grays shouldn't be so blobby. Your redraw on bobobo was alot better then first, but yet again you had alot of layers. not really wrong, but it makes the filesize bigger and is inconvenient for the QC'r. You can also just use the linetool on a seperate layer instead of on shape layers. O well.

I'm sure it's not only the levels since levels dont affect patterns.
When you edited, did you not throw any filter on it? o well. I'll leave the typesetting to hazama, he's better at that.
do you want to retry these pages or get some other mag scans?

alright, both these pages are cleaned the same way, just the levels are a bit different. What I would do:
Take out the ruler tool and rotate, then crop the page. (not needed for neuro, if I recall correctly)
Duplicate the background and level the background copy correctly
Resize to 1200 pixel height (not needed for neuro, already 1200 pix)
Remove the text in and outside bubbles, on a seperate layer
Remove any dusts left on white and blacks by hand
And your done.

Make the whole thing covered by text black, then make a white round on where the lighter sole is. finally go berserk with the linetool over that white piece. sorry for slow response by the way.
